Ramya’s international roots, early career as CFO of Energizer Battery in Sri Lanka, move to Minnesota, and path to her current role make for an inspirational story. If you could try a different job for a day, what would you choose?

Something creative. Teach children how to express their feelings through art.

What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

As the CFO of a non-profit organization, learn to collaborate and consult people in your team and across departments.

What is your mantra?

Be proactive instead of reactive.

How do you get yourself out of a slump?

Go to a movie, get-together with a friend, or spend time with my husband and daughter who are great company when I need uplifting.

What companies or leaders do you admire?

I admire most non-profits for their dedication to their mission. I particularly admire the YWCA of Minneapolis, my organization, for the work we do to eliminate racism and empower women. I also admire Feed My Starving Children, for the work they do, and Founder, Richard Proudfit, for the way he built and grew the organization through connection and collaboration in the last 30 years.

What has been the biggest shift you’ve noticed in your industry in the last decade?

Digitalization to create and deliver new value to the customer, and social media for communication.

Who has been most instrumental in your career?

My parents were the best role models I could ask for, and I have also had many other meaningful mentors in my career. One of them was the CEO of Energizer Battery Company, Tony Bush, who believed in me and appointed me as the CFO in my mid-thirties.

What is your go-to celebration meal, drink or tradition?

My husband makes a killer Margarita.
