What past career experiences do you draw on most in your current role?
Managing Mall of America. We’ve dealt with such a large variety of issues and every day presents different challenges. The same is true in our efforts to plan for a successful Super Bowl LII. And just like at Mall of America, we are working to promote Minnesota on a national and international stage.
You’re on the front line managing dozens of details leading up to a specific high-profile event. Do you have any life hacks that help you stay organized?
I create lists every day. My goal is to complete the list before I end the day. From my years working with reporters, it is critical to answer all calls in the same day as it affects deadlines and other decisions. If at all possible, I try to keep things moving forward.
What is your mantra?
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
How do you get yourself out of a slump?
Watch videos of our Crew 52 volunteers and their excitement. It has been a joy to recruit 10,000 volunteers to help us put on Super Bowl LII because Minnesotans across the state are so eager to join in the celebration and be a part of this special moment.
What leaders do you admire?
My father, and our Chairs: Richard Davis, Marilyn Carlson Nelson and Doug Baker.
Sports is a male-dominated industry so it’s worth noting that females are leading the planning for the two biggest sports events coming to Minneapolis – you as CEO of the Super Bowl Host Committee and Kate Mortenson, as CEO for the Final Four Organizing Committee coming in 2019. Do you two connect to share advice and ideas?
Yes. The Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee and Final Four Organizing Committee even have offices in the same building.
Who has been most instrumental in your career?
Over the years, I have had some amazing bosses.
You’re in a once-in-a-career type of a role. Once the Super Bowl is over what would be your next dream job?
I love start-ups and hope to work with others in the future.
What is your go-to celebration meal, drink or tradition?
I love the Pool & Yacht Club in Lilydale – overlooking the Mississippi, relaxing with wonderful people and a great menu.
