If you could try a different job for a day, what would you choose?

I would love to be a doctor. I’ve had some amazing doctors put me at ease with an assured and kind bedside manner, and I’d love to do the same for someone else.

What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

I coach tennis at the high school level and I would tell them the same thing I tell my players: Always show up when you say you’re going to show up. No matter how tough it is, there will always be someone to advocate for or educate you if you JUST SHOW UP.

What is your mantra?

You miss all the shots you don’t take.

How do you get yourself out of a slump?

I try to get a good night’s sleep and dive into my tasks the next day.

What companies or leaders do you admire?

I greatly admire the diplomacy and style of CEOs. If you’re lucky enough to have a conversation with one, you’ll find they are incredibly skilled at never speaking about themselves. They quicky mine information about you and what talents you bring to the table. It’s an art!

What has been the biggest shift you’ve noticed in your industry in the last decade?

A huge shift to better work/life balance has been achieved through flexible work arrangements and the ability to work remotely or hybrid style. This was unheard of when I started out in public accounting.

Who has been most instrumental in your career?

My father’s work as a CPA, CFO and Chief Investment Officer has greatly inspired my career choices. His work ethic was consistent and dependable. You knew he was someone you could trust. My mom was a math teacher who stayed at home to raise me and my siblings. The time I chose to stay at home with my kids was greatly inspired by her parenting style and I wouldn’t trade one single second of it. I’m grateful to have them both as sounding boards.

What is your go-to celebration meal, drink, or tradition?

Dinner with a glass of red wine at Broder’s Cucina. Chef’s kiss to this amazing Minneapolis institution!
