Brian Roth, Business Development Director

Brian Roth, Scouts Talent, Business Development Director

Brian spent over 10+ years in a variety of corporate FP&A and treasury roles to kick-start his career. Fortunately, he stumbled across the interim consulting space where for 8 years he took on many challenging and rewarding roles ranging from analyst to Director-level in FP&A, accounting, treasury, pricing and investor relations. His experience as a long-time consultant and unmatched passion for the value and expertise that interim talent brings to the table gives him instant credibility in his business development role.

Brian grew up in Ohio (Go Buckeyes!) and moved to Minnesota 20 years ago. When not working, Brian feeds his addiction on a pickleball court, hangs out with his wife and 4 girls at the local movie theater or playing games at home, and serves in his church congregation. He’s currently perfecting his spring roll recipe!

If you could try a different job for a day, what would you choose?

Many years ago, I wanted to become a medical practitioner. Serving others during times of need and to help save lives would be amazing! This same mindset of continually serving others is what led me to find my home with Scouts Talent.

I’m also a proud pickleball addict. Being in Ben Johns’ position as #1 on the Pickleball Association Tour and playing at that level of competition would be unreal. Not sure I’d mind a day of endorsements either!

What is your mantra?

Take that first step. You will never reach your goals without taking that first step. I think it’s summed up best in a quote from Bob Moawad, “You can’t make footprints in the sands of time sitting on your butt…and who wants to make butt prints in the sand?”

How do you get yourself out of a slump?

Connecting with family and close friends along with some self-reflection always helps ensure life’s top priorities are in check. By practicing the long-lost art of listening and feedback from others has helped open my eyes to some tweaks that can be made to ensure I’m firing on all cylinders.

What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

A passion for helping others is an absolute must, paired with ceaseless integrity. Choose to always do what’s right.

What has been the biggest shift you’ve noticed in your industry in the last decade?

Over the last decade, the finance and big data worlds have been quickly merging. Some organizations have struggled to know how to collect, interpret and act on the massive amount of data at our disposal. The companies that proactively put the right expertise in place are those that are blazing new trails and leapfrogging the competition.

Who has been most instrumental in your career?

I have been richly blessed to work for some amazing leaders in my career! The leaders that I have really admired have been those who are brilliant yet approachable. Leaders who are competitive with a sprinkle of humility and a dash of fun. The leaders who saw my potential, provided feedback and stretched me are the ones that I have most appreciated over the years.

What is your go-to celebration meal, drink or tradition?

Crepes are the celebration food of choice for our family. As a father of 4 girls, crepes are an excellent way to get the whole family working together to create a tasty treat at any hour of the day. On occasion we share the love, so don’t be surprised if a crepe offering comes your way!
